Anyone who has driven along Preston New Road in January will have seen them.  You can’t miss the flash of golden yellow on the pavement between the temporary traffic lights. Every weekday, regardless of the weather, there is a presence at the side of the road. Despite driving rain…  the biting wind… the bitter cold of a Lancashire winter, our local community members stand as protectors of our environment, and in opposition to the destruction of  prime farmland across the road where preparation is underway for fracking to finally take place.

These stalwarts are predominantly pensioners, the retired, mums between school runs and those who take a day off work or even come along in their lunch break to make their feelings known.  Daily support from the enormous Frack Free network, and visits from local and County councillors and  trades unions and political groups makes me realise the breadth of…
